All Australian Windows versions to v19.16 (19.sixteen) and Mac to v9.6
(see below for other versions)
From time to time, MYOB® Company Files encounter file corruption or other data errors (including 'out of balance'). Common causes of file corruption are power failure, network interruption, Dropbox syncing, or other issues that prevent MYOB® properly recording or deleting a transaction.
Most file errors are encountered when the file is first opened, during the File Verification process or during the File Optimisation process. It is good practice to run the File Verification process everytime the file is opened. Errors can be identified sooner making restoration or repair easier.
Common errors include (see also images below)
- 'Test x of y' - Serious problems exist in this part of your company file
- 'Index x' - Serious problems exist in this data file
- An error occurred while attempting to compact the database.
DM Error = (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxx)
- MYOB must terminate. Termination Code : xxxx
When you encounter a file error, the first thing to try is the Optimisation tool that comes with MYOB. This tool rebuilds your file and can fix some (but not all) errors.
Note: Optimisation is unreliable over a network and should be performed locally.
You could also search the MYOB Support Notes and MYOB Community forum for possible solutions, however typically only the simplest of errors can be fixed by a user.
See this MYOB link for their explanation of
numerous errors as well as possible solutions.
If you are unable to fix the problem, you will have to either restore a backup and re-enter any transactions since the backup, or get the file repaired.
We offer an inexpensive and efficient Data Repair Service. For MYOB's prices see - here
- there is an analysis fee (between $61 and $483) and a 'per hour' fee (between $263 and $967). (Update 17 May 2017 - MYOB have just reduced their repair pricing!!!! See, competition
is a good thing:) They now have a flat fee of $383 for Premium service - 24hrs - if you have a $1200 support plan in place, or $790 without a support plan. Our repairs are same day, average 4-6 hours for $275*).
If you have already sent your file to MYOB and they have advised you your file cannot be repaired, send it to us for a free second opinion. Some files are 'irrepairable' - however we have been able to repair several files MYOB sent back to their clients as 'cannot be repaired'.
Errors in the file can range from simple to very complex. Repairs are done within a few hours and in less than 24. We also run a number of tests to check the integrity of Reports and Account Balances, etc, something MYOB® doesn't do.
If you want a file repaired, zip then email (if < 10Mb) or upload it.

Due to the large number of issues encountered in AR201X version files, MYOB Australia currently repairs .myox file for free, even if you do not have a subscription. Although the repair is free, it does sometimes take 4-6 weeks to be completed, due to the huge backlog.
