Single Touch Payroll

From 1 July 2018 employers with over 19 employees will need to comply with what is referred to as Single Touch Payroll (STP). For more information about STP, please visit the ATO website here.

Due to the way the ATO have gone about implementing STP, it is not possible for a small developer to provide a complete solution. The data must be transmitted via an 'approved gateway' - there is no upload facility where an employer can send the data directly to the ATO.

If you are affected by STP, you will need to make your own arrangements to comply. This is either by upgrading your version of MYOB to AR2018 (which we do not recommend) or finding an alternative way to comply. This includes for example, uploading a spreadsheet after each payrun.

There are a number of providers who will accept a spreadsheet upload of data (similar to how superfunds do for SuperStream) and will then forward the data in the approved format via approved channels. Feedback from a user
We recently (21 June 2018) received the following unsolicited email from a MYOB® Classic user -

"Hi Michael

I have contacted you in the past regarding any possible STP solution. For anyone else looking for a solution that is quick and easy, can I make a recommendation?

We are using MYOB Premier V13, and have no interest in upgrading. We have opted to sign up with www.singletouch.com.au

We have configured & downloaded a CSV template & each time I run my payroll, I just export the relevant information to Excel, cut & paste the information into the template & save as CSV file. Then I log in to the SingleTouch website, upload the CSV file & they convert & lodge it for me. And they only charge $0.10 per employee per lodgement - for us that equates to about $4 per week - well worth it. The setup is a bit of a mission, but after that it's very simple to use."

Update from Namich - 29 Aug 2018 - We have been contacted by many MYOB® users who want to use a csv upload option, however struggle to get the relevant data out of MYOB® after each pay run. In response Namich is currently developing a program to automate the creation of a csv upload file, by extracting data from a MYOB® company file.

The program will create the csv file which you would then lodge through a service such as that provided by Single Touch Pty Ltd (see link above).
